Can someone please explain to me how the LFG tool will asses your gear when you join a PUG? For example as a DK with a tank/dps dual spec I have 2 sets of gears obviously. When I join a PUG, 9/10 times I'm tanking but while I'm in the queue/channel I'm in my DPS spec/gear doing quests or whatever. So is the system smart enough to know that I have a tanking set as well and is of better ilvl then the DPS set I'm usually wearing or do I have to put on my tanking gear when I join the LFG search?

It uses all the items you own to make that determination, not just what you have equipped.

Honestly though, we are really relaxed about how we use this restriction. It's basically in there to prevent newly minted 80s in quest greens from rolling into a heroic dungeon that is likely to kick their butt. Most players sophisticated enough to be on these boards won't run into it day to day practice.
