PTR Tweet it!Discuss Don't restrict LFG channel to Cities

One of the things i hate most about LF groups is that since Trade is the popular channel I have to sit there in dalaran if i want to know what raids are forming what are ppl running etc.

The few times I used the LFG tool was usually to get into the LFG channel which was global and allowed me to quest and keep an eye on raids (at least groups and raids that had the decency to post on LFG and not only spam trade)

If you make LFG a city only channel you are pretty much just changing the little 2 to a little 3 in my chat window and screwing me up if i want to go to another place.

Please remember that the reason the channel is still necesary is because even if I use your tool to look for dungeons or raids I am intereseted in sometimes you see a random "LFM Sunwell" or "LFM some random-stuff-you-may-find-fun but never thought of LFG yourself"

I don't think a world-wide LFG channel would be something you'd really want. It would immediately become the global chat channel for trade, spam and Chuck Norris jokes.

On live it's restricted to people using the LFG tool. The new dungeon tool honestly makes matches so quickly under most conditions that that implementation won't work. We feared people would just use the /trade channel if we didn't make a similar /lfg channel.

Q u o t e:
BULL, people already use this tool by queueing for a random instance they don't plan to do, so they can join the channel just to see what groups are going around.

Keep the channel limited to those using the LFG tool, like it is currently, it does not make the channel full of chuck norris jokes and trade...it is still for groups.

I know the old lfg global channel before the lfg tool was a little off the hook and abused because anyone could join it at any time, but that has long been cleared up by retircting acess to people using the lfg tool!

I don't think people queuing for an instance they don't really want to do is good for the LFG tool, especially if there are folks legitimately trying to run that dungeon. I realize it's a way to opt into the LFG channel rather than just having it be global for everyone, but it's a clunky way. With cross-realm LFG there is also a much higher chance you actually will find a group even for obscure dungeons.

I think there is some legitimacy to the players who want to just monitor what's going on while on an alt, but again the groups will typically get filled so fast that there is less need to do something while you wait, unless you're talking about raids, in which case you can sit on an alt and browse who is in the channel. Just remember that if everyone is browsing and nobody is listing themselves that it will be harder to form groups.

The reality that some players play many characters regularly is something we are trying to embrace more and more. We are putting more emphasis on your account and less on your actual character, so we hope to chip away at those moments where you feel punished for being on character A instead of character B (such as trying to find a group in this case).
