Quel'delar, The Sister Blade

The champions of the Alliance and the Horde who confront the Lich King's armies have but a slim chance of finding the pieces of this fabled blade. If they succeed, the heroes can embark on an epic adventure to re-forge Quel'Delar. They will require the strongest materials and a source of great power to make this shattered blade into the fearsome weapon it once was. Several classes can use Quel'Delar, and the sword can fit several different play styles. For any class that is unable to wield it, however, the Sunreaver blood elves and the Silver Covenant high elves will gladly take this relic of their history in exchange for a usable weapon.

The Battered Hilt Obtain the The Battered Hilt

The Battered Hilt is a rare drop from the 3 new dungeons: The Forge of Souls, The Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection. It's not a party loot, if it drops, only 1 person can loot it. It only drops in heroic mode, but it drops from bosses as well as trash.

The Battered Hilt The Battered Hilt
Bring the Battered Hilt to Myralion Sunblaze / Calidis Brightspear at Quel'Delar's Rest, south of the Argent Tournament Grounds.
This battered old sword hilt has seen better days. Before the hilt was snapped from the blade, it must've been a magnificent example of the blacksmith's art.

The graceful symbols and exotic gemstones decorating the hilt suggest that the weapon may have belonged to a powerful person. Surely, the Sunreavers would be interested in hearing about the recovery of such an artifact. Seek out their representatives at Quel'Delar's Rest, to the south of the Argent Tournament Grounds.

What The Dragons Know What The Dragons Know
Speak to Krasus at the top of Wyrmrest Temple.
Krasus, Kalecgos and Queen Alexstrasza discuss if we are trustworthy to know about the blade, then direct us to find a way to get a book containing information.

The Silver Covenant's Scheme The Silver Covenant's Scheme / The Sunreaver Plan
Capture the Silver Covenant Orders / Sunreaver Orders
Go to the Sewers in Dalaran, and talk to the agent there. Once you get the orders from him, you'll be attacked by a rogue NPC

A Suitable Disguise A Suitable Disguise
Obtain a Borrowed Tabard from Shandy Glossgleam.
To obtain the tabard, go to the balcony of the Dalaran Tailoring shop and on the balcony you have to complete a quest like the Zul'drak alchemist apprentice daily quest. Only there are only 4 items the NPC can call. Also, the quest shows a very fun way to do laundry :)

An Audience With The Arcanist An Audience With The Arcanist / A Meeting with the Magister
Retrieve the Ancient Dragonforged Blades tome from Arcanist Tybalin / Magister Hathorel.
With the tabard / disguise, you can enter the opposing faction's inn in Dalaran and get the book by simply talking to the aforementioned NPC.

Return To Myralion Sunblaze Return To Myralion Sunblaze / Return to Calidis Brightspear
Bring Ancient Dragonforged Blades to Quel'Delar's Rest in Icecrown Glacier, near the Argent Tournament.
Once you take to book the NPCs standing at Quel'delar's rest, you'll see a flashback, where Queen Lana'thel appears. You can read more about this on the first tab of the guide.

Reforging The Sword Reforging The Sword [Dungeon]
Obtain 5 Infused Saronite Bars and the Forgemaster's Hammer and use them to make the Reforged Quel'Delar.
Infused Saronite Bars are located throughout the Pit of Saron dungeon, mainly at the walls and around Ick and Krick. Remember to loot The Forgemaster's Hammer from Forgemaster Garfrost, then use the hammer and the collected Infused Saronite Bars on the anvil near the boss. Completable in normal or heroic difficulty of Pit of Saron.

Tempering The Blade Tempering The Blade [Dungeon]
Temper the Reforged Quel'Delar in the Crucible of Souls.
To temper the blade, kill the Devourer of Souls in The Forge of Souls and use the questitem at the fireplace behind it. You can turn in this quest outside the instance portals. Completable in normal or heroic difficulty of The Forge of Souls.

The Halls Of Reflection The Halls Of Reflection [Dungeon]
Bring your Tempered Quel'Delar to Sword's Rest inside the Halls of Reflection.
When you enter the Halls of Reflection and approach the Frostmourne, Uther the Lightbringer appears and warns you, then Quel'delar comes to life from your inventory and your party must fight and defeat it. After this you can loot the Subdued Quel'delar from the "corpse". Completable in normal or heroic difficulty of Halls of Reflection.

Journey To The Sunwell Journey To The Sunwell
Speak with Halduron Brightwing at the entrance to the Sunwell Plateau on the Isle of Quel'Danas.
Halduron Brightwing moved from Silvermoon City to the entrance of the Sunwell Plateau raiddungeon, just teleport there from Shattrath.

Thalorien Dawnseeker
quest map
Thalorien Dawnseeker
Visit Thalorien Dawnseeker's Remains and obtain his blessing to wield Quel'Delar.
Travel to the south end of the Isle of Quel'danas (check the map in the row above) and talk to the remains of the sword's original owner. Here a small event plays, where you and your partymembers have to defeat about 20 scourge skeletons (easy-peasy) and a death knight. When this is done, you get Thalorien's blessing.

The Purification of Quel'Delar The Purification of Quel'Delar
Immerse your Tempered Quel'Delar in the Sunwell. Speak to a Warden of the Sunwell when you are ready to enter the Sunwell Plateau.
After you speak to a Warden at the entrance of the raidinstance, you are teleported to a phased version of Sunwell Plateau, directly to the Kil'jaeden area, that appears to be set after you defeated it at level 70. Blood Elven guards, NPCs running to the Sunwell to cleanse themselves. A small event plays here as well, where you stick the sword in the Sunwell, however its previously thought owner cannot take it, only you, because it choose you.

In ages past the great Dragon Aspects worked alongside the night elves to forge powerful prismatic blades that could be used to thwart any evil that came into the world. They would become known as the blades of Quel'Serrar. One of these blades, which had become lost in time, was recently unearthed again by brave heroes of Azeroth. Now rediscovered, Quel'Serrar is revered once more as a mighty tool of raw power.

Its sister blade, however, has not been seen for many years...

The sword known as Quel'Delar was held by the group of kaldorei who would eventully become the high elves, and it was handed down from generation to generation. Most recently Quel'Delar was wielded by the valiant high elven warrior Thalorien Dawnseeker. Thalorien fought tirelessly in the Troll Wars to defend his beloved home of Silvermoon, the Sunwell, and all of Quel'Thalas. When the Scourge swept through the lands during the Third War, Thalorien was among the last lines of defense for the Sunwell. Despite the sword's power, he was ultimately slain by the overwhelming might of Arthas and his legendary runeblade, Frostmourne. Quel'Delar was thought to be lost forever.

Following the destruction of their homeland, the determined blood elves began to regroup and rebuild. It was during this time that the battle-hardened warrior Lana'thel stumbled upon Quel'Delar, and soon afterward the greatest opportunity to use the blade presented itself: Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider raised an army and combined forces with Illidan Stormrage, who led them north to Icecrown on a mission to destroy the Lich King. Lana'thel readily followed her prince with one thought in mind -- revenge against the Scourge -- but only tragedy awaited her.

In the icy hills of Northrend, Arthas ultimately defeated Illidan and Kael'thas, and the expedition's few survivors were scattered across the frozen wastes. One by one the Lich King sought out those who had challenged him, and Lana'thel found herself cornered. Using Quel'Delar, she struck at him with all her might... but Frostmourne's evil powers overwhelmed her. Through his blade, the Lich King chose Lana'thel to serve him in undeath as queen of the San'layn, a group responsible for overseeing the Scourge's operations across Azeroth.

Queen Lana'thel eagerly carried out her new duties, but every time she looked at her blade, maddening anger would swell within her as she remembered her former life. She could not afford such distractions, and with a scream that echoed throughout Icecrown, she shattered Quel'Delar and flung the fractured pieces as far as she could.

Now...

The champions of the Alliance and the Horde who confront the Lich King's armies have but a slim chance of finding the pieces of this fabled blade. If they succeed, the heroes can embark on an epic adventure to re-forge Quel'Delar. The search begins soon...
